This project features SX-1015 Architectural Wallcovering "Loom", a canvas-like textured finish with the durability needed for an active hospitality environment.

Challenge

RAK Yard had a large blank wall—approximately 60 feet across—in a highly active gathering and game space. The installation needed to do more than fill the wall: it had to bring the room together, reflect RAK’s community-driven personality, celebrate Frederick, and withstand everyday activity. Because Loom was being applied to a wall rather than glass, the existing surface also needed to be evaluated and prepared to ensure the substrate would properly accept the material. 

Solution

 A custom Frederick cityscape was produced as a large-format mural on Loom, whose textured, canvas-like surface added depth and character to the artwork. AP Corp worked with Decorative Films and RAK to evaluate the wall, test adhesion, and determine the necessary surface preparation before installation. The finished mural features recognizable Frederick architecture, church spires, Carroll Creek, vibrant color, and messaging tied to RAK’s Random Acts of Kindness philosophy. 

Impact

The mural transformed a previously blank wall into a focal point for RAK Yard and helped unify the surrounding décor. Guests now engage with the artwork, asking about the buildings and landmarks represented throughout the cityscape. Loom also delivered the detail, consistency, and durability the space required, holding up well even in an active game area where cornhole bags can periodically hit the wall.
